Hey y'all,

I was just wondering, When do we get paid for this type of blogging???? How long have all of you been up here and actually got paid??? I'm curious as to whether I've joined something for freelance blogging, or is this a business??? Comments are appreciated on this topping of FUSEPRESS's idea of us getting cash.

Internet Employment Fraudsters and Scam Artists

Have you ever checked out sites that offer bogus jobs that require you to use your own bank account in order to cash in bogus checks? These people keep asking you to take 10% of the cash amount as commission for your sevice. They tell you to send the rest of the money as a money order to a specified location.

I'm here to warn you not to accept such lucrative offers, even on your worst unemployment day. They look for vulnerable people that need ways to make cash quickly, but in the end you end up being the sucker. If you cash the check into your own personal bank account and money order the 90% through a money order institution like Western Union (for example) you will put yourself in debt. How, you might wonder? If the bank finds out that check you recieved in the mail is a bad check from this supposed bogus employer's clients you will have to pay the bank the 90% you money ordered unwittingly to that bogus employer online.

September 22, 2006 is One Web Day

Submitted by ChuckNugent on Thu, 2006-09-21 23:21. :: Blogging | Current Events | Programming

Friday September 22, 2006 is the first annual One Web Day celebration.
At least that is the goal of an outfit that calls itself OneWebDay and
is busy spreading the word via its web page (where else would such an
organization choose to announce its presence) whoseURL is www.onewebday.org. According
to their website, the idea for OneWebDay originated with Susan
Crawford, a professor at the Cardozo School of Law and who is also a
member of the Board of Directors of ICANN (Internet Corporation for
Assigned Names and Numbers), the organization that is responsible for
managing the assignment of internet addresses (it does more than this -
if you want more detail visit their website at www.icann.org).

Half.Com Shops - Make Money Selling Your Books and Music

Everyone has heard of eBay the online auction site where you can
buy or sell almost anything.  For sellers, eBay charges listing fees, a
commission on sales and other fees for extra services.  The fees are small and
very reasonable and no one should avoid attempting to sell on eBay simply
because of the fees.  One can become a member of eBay for free and, when
selling, the only fee that MUST be paid is the listing fee.  The listing fee is
non-refundable.  There other small, non-refundable, fees that can be charged at
the time of the listing if the seller elects to use additional eBay services to
promote the item being sold.  Since items are listed for periods ranging from 3
- 10 days, the seller risks losing the listing fee, and associated promotional
fees, if the item does not sell.  For bigger sellers eBay offers, for a larger
fee, eBay stores where the user can sell items on an ongoing basis without time
limits so long as the store is maintained.

Blogging out of the Box

Submitted by Drama Diva on Fri, 2006-08-25 18:41. :: Programming

So...I have a personal blogger (along with several million others) on the myspace website, which is locked down within an inch of it's life, protecting my daily diary from the masses.  Not that my comings and goings are anything spectacular, but at times I find it comforting to know that I can rip into a good tear of profanity (which I tend to wield as a fine art-form at times) and let loose.  These are not writings that I would want floating around the world at a google's random search away.  I am a private person, it is true.  Apart from that, the average everyday person would find the writing confusing to follow, and most likely boring as hell.  In short, I've decided to join this particular blogging community, in which I can expand topics of interest, books I've read, films I've seen, and shows I've attended in the area, which will be more complete in thought and intent, than the laundry listing I myspace every day.  So...here is to blogging outside the box.  Hope you find something interesting to keep you coming back for more.

How to Buy and Sell Textbooks Online

Submitted by ChuckNugent on Sat, 2006-08-19 13:13. :: Programming

In recent years hundreds of sites have sprung up on the Internet offering individuals and businesses the opportunity to buy and sell both textbooks and other books.  While the largest volume on these sites is used books they also sell new books at a substantial discount as well. While I had been aware of these sites for a long time, I never bothered to check them out or use them until a student in one of my spring 2004 classes suggested to the class that they check online for the text.  The book retailed at the bookstore new for $135 and used for $95.  She purchased it new on Half.com and, with shipping, the total price was $55 .  I have since used Half.com and Amazon.com to purchase and resell my daughter's text books.  By my rough calculations I figure that I pay a little over a third of what I would pay to get the same books for her at the bookstore.  Part of this savings is the fact that I have more access to used books online than in the bookstore.  However, just as when purchasing from the college bookstore, I sometimes have to buy new online.  I then recover part of what I pay for my daughter's books (both new and used) from the proceeds of the sale of the books at the start of the next semester.

Online Courses from an Instructor's Point of View

Submitted by ChuckNugent on Sat, 2006-08-19 12:33. :: Programming

Autumn is fast approaching and that means that the fall term for college students is about to start.  But for many students, returning to school simply means logging on to their class from home, work or wherever they may be located.  In addition to being able to take a course from a school anywhere in the world without leaving home, students also have the convenience of "attending" their classes at any time of the day or night.  The appeal of attending classes on their own schedules is so great that increasing numbers of students who are attending college away from home are electing to register for online courses which they then take from their dorm room simply because it is more convenient to sign-in to the class from their dorm room at, say 3 a.m., than to get up an walk to a classroom across campus at 8:30 a.m.

Did I Miss Something?

Submitted by Sean on Thu, 2006-08-17 03:00. :: Programming

Did something happen with this site? Like I've said, I haven't been here for some time. I was checking the logs and it seems all of the old/good members stop logging on around the same date. If anybody knows what has happened (if anything at all), please tell me.
