A Bit of Reminiscing of Phoenix
in 1969
August of 1969. We came from West Islip, Long Island New York. I thought my father was out of his mind. We stepped out of this air-conditioned TWA plane into the bun-oven. I felt like a Pillsbury biscuit. And that night, as we all lay there sweating bullets for the heat and humidity, I think most of us cried. We loved New York. We had lived in the same little house for a lifetime. I was born in Amityville (no jokes, please ! I was NOT The Horror) but only remember this little house on Myrtle Avenue with the woods all around us, the creek running past our back yard, the frogs, turtles and snakes I caught for all the neighborhood kids (hey, I was talented even at a very early age!) and the changing seasons.

maybe for tonight, not so very much)
Well after all that politicking, let’s get as far away from it as we can. On November 7th, we’ll be voting. On November 5th, Brits will be ‘celebrating’ Guy Fawkes Day. Indeed, Dave (one of my friends in England) tells me they’re already starting to practise their fireworks (can you imagine doing that here in Phoenix!? You’d have SWAT on your front doorstep pretty quick)* The fireworks practising is driving him crazy as the weather in Birmingham is finally lovely enough to leave doors and windows open and let a nice breeze in (sound familiar, Phoenicians?) and instead, he’s getting a headache.
